Sowing Community Pride

On Friday, June 4th, 2010, all of the RxMedia Healthcare Communications team came together once again for their second annual volunteer and community service initiative. RxMedia strives to provide help through volunteerism to causes where resources are slim, but potential for success is tremendous!

The group gathered at Rayfield Park in Mississauga, the designated location for clean-up. Carine Strong, Executive Director of Volunteer MBC, was on site bright and early, ready with tools and instructions for the RxMedia crew.  Essentially, it was a day of clean up and planting to reclaim a park space that had been taken over by neglect and abuse to help turn it into a space where families and the community on a whole would be able to use it as it was originally intended.

Although the project included plenty of sun, soil and smiles, it wasn’t all fun and games – a lot of hard work went into cleaning, weeding, and pruning; along with cutting huge branches off of trees!

The day started off with the ladies taking over the front area of the park to weed and plant large, leafy greens, while the RxMedia men took on the shovels to plant shrubs and spread wheelbarrows full of mulch near the park bridge. Later in the afternoon, some of the team members worked in other areas of the park together to mulch and elevate the trees, while a few others sawed the bottom branches off of fern trees that were growing too large.

The day was a great success and the park organizers couldn’t have been more pleased.  In just a few hours, the RxMedia team had worked together to transform the park into a beautiful, lush space for many families in the Mississauga area.

Volunteer MBC is a volunteer centre that aims to foster and develop volunteerism by raising awareness of the power of service. They are located in the Region of Peel, serving the cities of Mississauga, Brampton, and the Town of Caledon. To find out more, please visit http://www.volunteermbc.org/.
